About Lee and Amanda Borden

Okay, we admit it: we're tree-huggers. Actually, Amanda's the tree-hugger. Lee is very much in love with Amanda and will do pretty much whatever she tells him to do (a strategy that has served him well over the 35 years of their marriage), including posing with his arms around a tree. Lee is more into resiliency, self-sufficiency, and preparation for a future we expect to be fundamentally different from the past several decades. Both of us are also part-time peak oil and population planners.

Dr. Amanda Welch Borden is an associate professor in the Communication Studies Department at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, where her research and teaching focus is intercultural communication. Amanda is bilingual (English and French) and is on her way to becoming tri (studying Spanish). Her present and more precise research focus is the extent to which travel abroad, living abroad, and working side by side with persons of another culture changes the way we view that culture and our intercultural competence in general.

Lee Borden is a lawyer and divorce mediator practicing in Birmingham. He maintains an extensive web site on issues of divorce called Divorceinfo.com. You can read more than you ever wanted to know about Lee here.

Beginning the summer of 2009, we will move to our small farm in Elmore County, Alabama, Longleaf Breeze. You can read about our adventures on the Longleaf Breeze blog if you're into that sort of thing.

For the benefit of those trying to find Amanda who know only her maiden name, she was formerly known as Amanda Jean Welch or simply as Amanda Welch. Click here if you want to contact us.
